We received a grant by National Arts Council to create Singapore’s largest GIF festival – a celebration of GIFs as a form of art, entertainment and communication. We launched an Open Call for original GIFs inspired by the theme ‘spellbound’ and commissioned the creation of 50 GIFs by professional artists.
We transformed a warehouse in the arts enclave Gillman Barracks where 90 original Gifs were showcased in an immersive experience that featured projections, giant screens, a ‘gif forest’ and secret rooms. We created a program of parties, talks and workshops that ran over 7 days.
This included an ad industry evening on GIFs and the future of communication, a GIF making workshop for kids, a cinemagraph workshop hosted by AikBeng Chia and a live GIF making session by Spanish illustrator Javier Arres.
The festival received widespread coverage in both local and international media.
